Competitions
The International Client Interviewing (Counselling) Competition started in the UK in 1984, following its popularity in the United States. Centring on a simulated law office interview, it provides a valuable educational and cultural interchange between students, law teachers and legal practitioners. Panels of lawyers, academics and counsellors are recruited locally as judges. The Law School was proud to host the international competition in 2006. Every year, about 24 law schools in England and Wales compete and the winning team of students goes on to the international final, which Cardiff won in 2005 in Hawaii.

The Negotiation Competition is the sister competition of the Client Interviewing Competition, and is sponsored by the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR). Teams of students from law schools in England and Wales try to negotiate a settlement based on realistic business and neighbour scenarios. Those proceeding to the national final are rewarded with a day's negotiation training at CEDR. The winning national team goes on to the international final. Cardiff holds an internal competition, judged by Macfarlanes Solicitors, with the successful team winning an i-pod and a place at Macfarlanes' open day recruitment event.
