Cardiff Law Fair
The Law School’s Careers Service
Our careers programme is co-ordinated by the Law School’s Law Careers Advisor, who works closely with the University’s Careers Service to arrange a series of workshops and presentations for law and non-law careers. Many of these take place on Thursday lunchtimes in the Law School. Students are emailed regularly with updated on careers events and the Cardiff Law Fair, which takes place early in the first semester at City Hall.
As part of your career planning, you will be encouraged to take part in the Personal Development Planning (PDP) process. Throughout the year, we will give you information to help you take full advantage of various skills and learning opportunities, which will enable you to track your personal development during your time at the Law School. Opportunities available to you after your first year include our Pro Bono legal advice scheme, and the Cardiff Law School Innocence Project.
The Centre for Professional Legal Studies (CPLS) is located in the Law School and offers the Legal Practice Course and the Bar Vocational Course, the next stage of training for graduates who wish to become solicitors or barristers. Teaching is delivered by highly experienced, professional tutors, all of whom are qualified as solicitors or barristers and CPLS maintains strong links with the legal profession.
Law Careers and Skills Advisor - the Law School has a dedicated careers advisor who works closely with the University's Careers Service to arrange a careers programme in the Law School. The Law Careers and Skills Advisor also runs the Innocence Project, which was set up in 2005-06 following significant interest from students in the area of criminal law and, in particular, miscarriages of justice. Cardiff Law School, in conjunction with Bristol University provided the first national training programme for Universities' Innocence Projects in conjunction with Innocence Network UK. The Law and Careers Skills Advisor also organises pro bono activities within the Law School.
