Visiting Fellow Programme

Cardiff Law School welcomes applications to its Visiting Fellow Programme. We have a large academic staff spanning a range of interests and strong interdisciplinary links with other Schools (such as the Business School, Psychology, the Medical School and the Social Sciences). We are committed to interdisciplinary, critical and doctrinal research and encourage applications from established and emerging scholars working within all relevant fields.

Visiting Fellows will be based at Cardiff for a period from a week to a year. We give preference to applications for visits of up to three months, though we will consider applications for longer stays in order to allow Fellows to engage in research exchange with academics working in related fields. Fellows are expected to pursue a specific research project while within the School and both to deliver and participate in research seminars. Office space, a computer terminal and access to our excellent library facilities will be made available.

During teaching periods, Fellows may if they wish, and where appropriate, attend courses taught within the School. It may in addition be possible to arrange for Fellows to contribute to the teaching of specified modules. Each Fellow is expected to make at least one presentation to staff and encouraged to participate in other School activities.

The School does not provide financial support for travel, accommodation or subsistence. Information on support schemes provided by the University is available from

Selection of fellows is made three times a year. Please include the following information in your application:

• A description of your proposed area of research during the period as Visiting Fellow. The proposal should define the aims of the study, its methods and any proposed outcomes as clearly as possible.
• The name(s) of any members of the Law School staff with whom you have previously had academic contact or who works in an area similar to your own proposed study. If you do not have a contact and are successful in securing a fellowship, we will nominate someone within the School to facilitate your visit.
• The duration of the stay and the confirmed or expected sources of funding, sufficient to meet all your expenses.
• Two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your work.
• It would be helpful to have an example of your written work (preferably a publication, such a PDF article)
• A curriculum vitae.
• A statement to the effect that you have sufficient fluent command of oral English to enable you to participate actively in individual and group discussions throughout the period of the Fellowship.

The three closing dates for applications are: 30th April, 30th August and 30th November. Complete application materials should be sent to:
