Good Things

Looking back the children felt there were some good things
to come out of their experiences

Having two of everything !

"The fact that you get two presents, you know one off your Mum and one off your Dad. You get the best of both of them because, when you are with them they don’t really want to spend the time shouting."
Robert (aged 13)

"Having two birthdays is good and having two Christmases. Up in my bedroom we’ve got a games console and I’ve got loads and loads of games for that. And over at my Dad’s house we used to have a computer but now we’ve got a Playstation."
Stewart (aged 9)

Getting better relationships with your parents

"Well often you get a better relationship with the parent who you're not living with."
Rhys (aged 10)

"There probably aren’t many advantages, but maybe the fact that you have probably become closer to both of them really, perhaps more the one that has moved out because if you get to see him (or her) still, then you become closer. You just learn that."

Julie (aged 12)

Feeling stronger

"You become stronger in yourself and often the parents are happier than when they were together."
Rhiannon, (aged 14)

"I can’t say as if I would be better off if my parents hadn’t separated, apart from Christmas presents,
‘cos you get double of everything – but I’m definitely more independent. That’s a positive thing."

Damian, (aged 13)
