Scholarships - Terms & Conditions
Terms and conditions for Entrance Bursaries and Merit Scholarships for International Students applying in 2011-12
- Cardiff Law School offers an ‘Entrance Bursary' of £1,000 to all full-fee paying students of international fee status (EU not included) of school leaving age, who enrol in the first year of the M100 LLB programme with AAA at A-level (excluding General Studies) or local equivalent.
- Agreed equivalent grades are 37 points for International Baccalaureate, including 7, 6, 6 at higher level; an 83% average mark in the best four subjects (excluding PE) in Year 12 in the Indian School Certificate Examinations; AAA at SPTM; BBB in Hong Kong A Levels; 96% in the Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank (ATAR). Standards for other qualifications will be judged by the admissions tutor. The University's decision on whether a qualification is equivalent to AAA at A-level is final. PE, General Studies and Critical Thinking are excluded when determining agreed equivalent grades.
- Entrance bursaries will be determined in the first semester of Year 1 and will result in a reduction of fees for the remaining two instalments for that year.
- Full-fee paying first and second year international students who achieve academic excellence in their end of year assessments will be eligible for a merit scholarship of £1,000, £3,000 or £5,000.
- For the purposes of these scholarships, ‘Academic excellence’ is defined as achieving a 60-64% average (£1,000 scholarship), 65-69% average (£3,000 scholarship), 70% or more average (£5,000 scholarship).
- The maximum scholarship payable for undergraduates is £10,000 over two years. The scholarship results in a reduction of fees in the following academic year of study.
- Students who are wholly state-funded or in receipt of other scholarships or funds which wholly or partly cover their tuition fees are not eligible for any of these awards.
- Scholarships are subject to the student satisfying the examiners at the end of the academic year and proceeding to the next level of study.
- There is no special application process for the entrance bursaries or scholarhip awards. All eligible students will automatically be considered for an award.
- Conditions are subject to change without notice. Awards are made to candidates who meet the terms and conditions current at the time of application.
