Student Scholarships and Funding for Undergraduate Degree Programmes

Law Scholarships for international LLB students

We offer two types of scholarship to international students (excluding students from the European Union): first, we offer a £1,000 Entrance Bursary to those who achieve excellence at A-level or the equivalent and who enter in the first year of the M100 programme; and second, we offer Merit Scholarships of up to £10,000 to those who achieve outstanding academic performance whilst studying on the LLB programme at Cardiff. See Terms and conditions.

In addition to Entrance Bursaries, £31,000 was awarded to 17 scholarship winners in 2011.

Who is eligible for the award of an Entrance Bursary?

A £1,000 Entrance Bursary will be awarded to all students (EU not included) who enrol in the first year of the M100 LLB programme as full fee-paying students of international fee status, having achieved AAA at A-level or the local equivalent. (Students whose fees are paid by a sponsor are not eligible for this bursary.)

Who is eligible for a Merit Scholarship?

The Merit Scholarships are available to first and second year undergraduate students who are enrolled on the M100 LLB programme as full fee-paying students of international fee status. (Students whose fees are paid by a sponsor are not eligible for a scholarship.)

How much are the Merit Scholarships worth?

The scholarships are worth £1,000, £3,000 or £5,000 and can be earned in successive years. The maximum scholarship payable is £10,000 over the two years.

What are the criteria for award of the Merit Scholarships?

How do I apply for a bursary or scholarship?

Students do not need formally to apply for these awards. All eligible students will automatically be considered.

When will I know if I have been successful?

Students who are eligible for a bursary or scholarship will receive a letter following publication of their results in the assessments at the end of the academic year.

If I am successful, when will I receive my award?

The award of a bursary or scholarship will result in the appropriate reduction in fees for the following academic year of study.
