How to Apply
Full time LPC
All applications for the full-time Legal Practice Course (for Stages 1 and 2 combined or for Stage 1 only) have to be made online through the Legal Practice Course Central Applications Board at www.lawcabs.ac.uk.
Part time LPC
Applications for the part-time LPC are made direct to the University and not through the Central Applications Board. Please read our Guidance Notes before applying online.
You must have a qualifying law degree or a CPE / GDL or similar qualification such as FILEX in order to start the LPC
How we determine your application
When determining whether to offer you a place, we take into account the following criteria:
- your academic record (including your actual or predicted degree result and actual or predicted result in the CPE/ GDL)
- (for full-time applications via the Central Applications Board) whether you have put Cardiff as your first, second or third choice
- your statement in support of your application
- the reference from your referee
- whether you have a sufficient command of English to complete the course
- your degree of commitment to the solicitors' profession (as evidenced by placements with solicitors' firms or equivalent experience, or a secured training contract)
- your reasons for wanting to study the LPC at Cardiff, and
- any special personal reasons affecting your freedom to study elsewhere.

Stage 2 only applications

Our Stage 2 vocational electives are delivered from March to June in each year.
Requirements for enrolment
Students wishing to embark on the LPC must ensure before they enrol on the course that they:
- enrol as a student with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA); and
- obtain written confirmation from the (SRA) that they have completed the academic stage of training.
You will not be able to start the LPC if you do not satisfy these two requirements. Please see www.sra.org.uk/enrol for more information.
