Introduction
Kaarina is a part-time research student at Cardiff Law School. She started her PhD in October 2010, but was on maternity leave for a year until December 2011.
Her PhD, under the supervision of Dr. Urfan Khaliq, focuses on the human rights of unaccompanied minors in the European Union.
Kaarina studied in Switzerland and obtained her Master in International Relations from the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva.
Kaarina is interested in human rights and especially refugee and migration issues.
She was awarded a scholarship by the German DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for an internship at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Morocco from September 2009 to March 2010.
Kaarina received a '125 for 125' scholarship from the Law School, when she started in 2010.
