Introduction

Nicky completed her first degree in law (2000) and her doctorate at the University of Kent (2004). Nicky first took up a Lectureship at Keele University in 2004, and joined Cardiff Law School in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer. Her teaching and research interests include torts and medical law, with specific concerns around the ethics of compensation and the meaning and practice of 'injury' and 'harm' in the law of negligence. Building upon a series of articles exploring such themes in the context of the actions for wrongful conception and wrongful birth, Nicky published her monograph on the subject, The Harm Paradox: Tort Law and the Unwanted Child in an Era of Choice  (Routledge-Cavendish, 2007). Nicky is pursuing a number of projects which explore how insights from the behavioural sciences might inform regulation in the fields of reproduction and personal injury law. She is also Co-editing Volume V of the Ashgate series (with Dr Anthony Wrigley, Keele University) of Ethics, Law & Society (Ashgate, 2012). Nicky is the Route Convenor/Course Director of the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice LLM. She is a member of various professional bodies, including the International Association of Bioethics, Western Economic Association, Law and Society Association, and she is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
