Introduction
Professor Daniel Wincott took up the Blackwell Law and Society Chair at Cardiff Law School in September 2008. He moved from a Chair in European and Comparative Politics at the University of Birmingham, and earlier held positions in Law and Politics at the Universities of Leicester and Warwick. His undergraduate and masters degrees are from the University of Manchester and he holds a PhD from the London School of Economics.
His research addresses questions of governance, across supranational, state and sub-state levels, with a focus on social law and policy. Professor Wincott has carried out research into UK devolution and processes of devolution and decentralisation in other states - in particular in the Citizenship After the National State project, and he has a longstanding interest in the European Union (particularly the idea of the 'European Social Model' and politics of European Union law). He has a particular interest in early childhood education and care. Professor Wincott's research has been supported by grants from the Economic and Social Research Council, the Nuffield Foundation and the British Academy.
Professor Wincott is on the editorial board of the Journal of Law and Society and was editor of the Journal of Common Market Studies. He is Co-Chair of the Wales Governance Centre (WGC), a Member of the Managemetn Group of the Wales ESRC Doctoral Training Centre, on the Management Board of the Cardiff University Graduate College and serves as the Law School's representative to the Welsh Institute of Social and Economic Research Data and Methods (WISERD).
