Introduction

BA (Hons) Law & Sociology (Durham); MA Legal Practice (UCE); JP.

Prior to qualifying as a solicitor Jason worked in industry (Shell UK Oil) and in the voluntary sector.  Jason was admitted as a solicitor in November 1996 whilst with Loosemores Solicitors in Cardiff, and undertook a broad range of litigation work.  Jason was admitted to the Law Society Children Panel in April 2000.  In June 2001, he moved to Hurlow & Partners, as an Associate, specialising in public and private law children's litigation.

Jason joined CPLS in January 2003.  He has taught Litigation and a range of practitioner skills on both the LPC and BPTC, and is course leader for the options courses in Child Care Law.  In addition, Jason is Deputy Director of the Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate and, in 2010, he was appointed Director of Strategy and Finance for CPLS.

Jason also undertakes research for the CPLS, and was a member of the project teams which conducted the Quality Assurance for Advocates pilot, and the Alternative Commissioning of expert evidence pilot (both for the Legal Services Commission).  In addition, Jason has recently completed a project commissioned by the Care Council for Wales (with Professor Luke Clements and Julie Doughty), to design and draft a training resource for child protection social workers working in post-Devolution Wales.  Jason also regularly delivers papers at conferences, including the ‘Law and Procedure Update' at the annual Bond Solon Expert Witness Conference (2008 - 2011), and ‘Jones v Kaney' at the British Association of Forensic Odontologists Conference (2011).

Jason remains a consultant with Hurlow & Partners Solicitors (Cardiff), a niche criminal and family law practice, providing litigation and advocacy support.  In 2007, Jason was appointed as a Justice of the Peace, and sits in the adult magistrates' courts in Gwent.  In 2011, Jason was appointed as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber (fee paid).
