Introduction
Dr Cliona Kelly joined Cardiff Law School in September 2011, and teaches Sales Law and Agency and Contract Law. Cliona is a graduate of University College Dublin, where she graduated top of her class with a first class honours degree. She also completed her PhD in University College Dublin. The PhD, which was funded by the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences, was entiteld Beyond Termination: Reform of the Effect of Frustration of Contract. Cliona also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
Before coming to Cardiff Cliona was a lecturer in law at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She has also lectured in Trinity College Dublin (2006 - 2007) and was a Senior Tutor in University College Dublin (2002 - 2006). Cliona also worked as a legal resarcher in the Irish Law Reform Commission where she was the Principal Legal Researcher for the Report on Privity of Contract and Third Party Rights. She has worked as an ad hoc consultant to the Law Society of Ireland's Business Law Committee and in 2011 she was appointed as Internal Examiner in Contract Law for the Law Society of Ireland, a statutory position under the Solicitors Acts 1954 - 1994. She is also an External Examiner at the University of Portsmouth and Bangor Law School.
Cliona's main research interests relate to Contract law and Consumer Law, particularly European Contract Law and Consumer Law, but she also has an interest in issues relating to human rights and the patenting and regulation of biotechnology.
