Introduction
James Davey joined Cardiff Law School in 2001. He lectures on Contract Law to undergraduates and leads courses on Insurance and Marine Insurance on the Commercial Law LLM. He is currently supervising a PhD student in the field of marine insurance law.
His research focuses on insurance law, and in particular insurance contract theory. His current research includes papers on the application of default rules analysis to insurance law and the role of innominate terms in insurance contract law. He is also working on the liability of insurers for their part in historic human rights abuses, such as the Holocaust and the transatlantic slave trade. He acted as research consultant for counsel in North Star Shipping v Sphere Drake, The North Star [2006] EWCA Civ 378 in the Court of Appeal.
He is Admissions Tutor for the Commercial Law LLM.
