Introduction
Cathy Cobley, a former police officer, graduated from University College, Cardiff in 1988 with a first class honours degree in Law. She has been a lecturer at Cardiff Law School since 1989, where she now lectures on the undergraduate degree programmes in Criminal Law, Evidence and Contract Law and contributes to teaching on the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice postgraduate degree scheme. Her research interests include vulnerable witnesses in the criminal justice system, sex offenders and child abuse. She has undertaken a two year research project, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, on the legal and child protection issues which arise when a child sustains a subdural haemorrhage. Her publications include ‘Child Abuse and the Law’ (1995) Cavendish Medico-Legal Series, ‘Sex Offenders: Law, Policy and Practice’ 2nd edition (2005) Jordans and 'Non-accidental head injury in young children: medical, legal and social responses' (2006) Jessica kingsley Publishers.
