Introduction

The Right Reverend Gregory Kenneth Cameron is Bishop of St Asaph and an Honorary Research Fellow in Canon Law at the Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff Law School.


Gregory is one of the UK's most influential Anglican clergymen. Born in south east Wales in 1959, he grew up in the village of Llangybi near Usk in Monmouthshire. He studied Law at Oxford University before going on to take a degree in Theology in Cambridge where he was taught by the young Rowan Williams. After studying at St Michael's College, Llandaff, Gregory was ordained in the Diocese of Monmouth. In 2000, Rowan Williams, then Archbishop of Wales, appointed Gregory as his Chaplain.  He took his M Phil in Christian Doctrine in the University of Wales in 1986 and the Cardiff LLM in Canon Law in 1997


He was appointed Director of Ecumenical Affairs at the Anglican Communion Office in London in 2003, becoming Deputy Secretary General a year later. In 2007, he was granted an honorary Doctorate of Divinity by the Episcopal Divinity School, Massachusetts, in recognition of his contribution to reconciliation in the Anglican Communion.
