Travel to Cardiff

Cardiff is served by the M4 and is easily accessible from all parts of Britain.

From the south west, take the M5 and from the south of England, follow major A roads to the M4.

From Scotland, the north of England and the Midlands, travel via the M50 to the M4.

Travelling east on the M4. Leave the motorway at Junction 32, follow the A470, signposted City Centre, into the Cathays area of the city.

Travelling west on the M4. Leave the motorway at Junction 29, follow the A48(M)/A48, signposted Cardiff East and South, to the A470. Follow the A470, signposted City Centre, into the Cathays area of the city.

train iconBy Rail

High speed InterCity trains provide frequent services between all major British cities. The Cardiff-London InterCity service, from London Paddington, runs some seventeen times a day, with a journey time of less than two hours.

Frequent regional network trains connect Cardiff (Cardiff Central Station) with:

Bristol (50 mins)
Birmingham (2 hrs 10 mins)
Southampton (2 hrs 30 mins)
Manchester (3 hrs)
Liverpool (3 hrs)
and with many other cities and towns.

Cardiff International Airport is 11 miles from the city centre.

Heathrow Airport

On arriving in Heathrow you should purchase a return ticket for National Express Coach to Cardiff Central Bus Station.

Single fare - £32.50; Return fare - £35.00.

Tickets can be purchased from the National Express office. There is a National Express Office in each terminal. Coaches leave from the Central Bus Station for Terminals 1, 2, 3 and pick up from terminal 4. Buses leave every 2 hours from 01.05 to 22.45. It is a direct coach to Cardiff and the journey time is approximately 3 hours.

Gatwick Airport

Should you be flying into Gatwick, the information is as follows:

Single fare - £36.00; Return fare - £40.50. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket offices in both the North and South terminals. Buses from the North terminal leave approx every two hours between 06.15 to 23.55 and from the South terminal from 06.05 to 23.45 pm. This is a direct service Cardiff. The journey time is approximately 3 and a half hours.
