Will the competition
rounds be videotaped?
Yes.
What will the weather be like during the competition?
As you will be visiting in the spring you should bring warm clothing,
an umbrella and shoes suitable for rainy weather. Although it can
be quite warm during April, in Wales the weather can be changeable
and may be quite wet. The average temperature in April is approx
5-13o C. More information can be found on the BBC's
weather website.
What is the history of the competition?
The Rules contain a section on the history of the competition.
What might competitors wish to bring?
One option is to bring small souvenirs of one's home country (e.g,,
photos, paperweights, pens, etc.) to swap with other competitors.
Will my contact details be publicized?
Registration packs will contain a list of delegates and their contact
details to facilitate continued contact after the competition. This
information will not be given to the general public.
How should people dress?
Dress is generally casual; there will be some walking involved.
Students generally wear a sport jacket or suit to the banquet and
to the competition - the rest is relaxed and up to personal taste.
Students are encouraged to wear traditional dress to the banquet.
If I am ill during the competition, will I have to pay
for medical treatment?
If you do not normally live in the UK and you do not meet one of
the exemptions from charges then you will have to pay for treatment
you might need. This is regardless of whether you are a British
citizen or have lived or worked here in the past or have been issued
with an HC2. If you live in a country for which there is a bilateral
healthcare agreement you may be exempt from some charges. We
suggest that you take out the appropriate medical insurance for
your visit. Please see the government
website for more details.
What is the topic for this year's competition?
